To apply for a job as a radio dj/on-air personality, what would be good to include for a "portfolio" aside from a resume, and a CD of a demo. A picture as well?

  1. you should put NAB (national assocation of broadcasters) stooge on there

work for real radio -Sirius radio-

commercial free and uncensored just the way the founding fathers would have liked

and I dont mind payin my 48 cents a day to get it

  2. With the internet, radio is now more a visual medium than it was years ago.  So a picture wouldn't hurt, especially if it's a top 40 station.  What will really get you noticed is a well produced air-check / demo.  Have a short (3min or less) mp3 and cd ready to go.  I agree with the other post, IF your production "shines" I would ad a production demo too.  Remember you have to stand out among a lot of other talented personalities, so hit 'em with your best stuff at the beginning.  Because today's busy Program Directors, programming several different stations at one time, may only give you about thirty seconds.  So make it count.

Don't forget to tailor your resume for the specific job you're looking for.  If it's mornings, highlight your morning show experience.  The main thing is to stand out.  You may not get a response.  That doesn't mean you're not good... you just may not fit that particular station's image.  Keep trying.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

  3. well...been out of radio for a few years, but that sounds like it should be enough...perhaps(if your production really 'shines' and I mean "shines"..at the end of your air check, put some of your very best spots on there, and list any  "Addy" or other awards they've won.....good luck!  **make sure someplace in your resume or cover letter or whatever you 'really' sell yourself/your ratings and what demographics you do best in etc. Anything EXCEPT the line you'll work cheap...that's a dead giveaway you need them more than they need you!
