  1. After you have been shooting for a bit I would look into lenses or a flash.  I would wait a bit because time will tell you which you need more based on your style of shooting.

  2. Don't overwhelm yourself! Trust me, I've seen it happen a lot! Just start off with the camera and kit lens... maybe a good tripod, an extra battery, and extra memory card as well. Really get to know your camera before you go out and buy other accessories for it! Then you can move on to new lenses, external flashes, etc.

  3. What ever the camera, there are some things (often taken for granted) that are on the "must have" list. A camera bag (often called a "gadget" bag) to carry everything in. A filter adapter to fit the lens(s). At least 2 filters, (for each lens) a UV and a polarizing filter. A mini-tripod for macro copy or timed work. Lens and LCD cleaner. Lens cleaning cloth. Lens and mirror brush. Wired and/or IR remote control. Extra SD card(s). Back-up pre-charged batteries. Battery charger. External flash. Telephoto lens. (in my case) Pistol grip that fits tripod socket (when using telephoto for sure). Lens caps (front and back). In my case, I use the shoulder strap on my bag to wrap around and hold the cases for my telephoto and flash on the back of the bag and carry it by the top handle as one neat package ready to go on a shoot. The only other thing I normally would have to drag along is a full sized tripod like I used last night to shoot fireworks.

  4. The SB 800 flash, its a must for that camera. if you need a len get the 18-135 Nikon lens. Its tack sharp. You will also need at least a 4 gig memory card.

  5. Many people are buying the MD-10 and second battery to extend their shooting sessions ... that and the 18-200 mm VR lens.  Flash wise you can buy either the SB600 or SB800 ... They are selling 8 GB CF cards for under $30 on sale if you are going to be shooting RAW + JPEG, but otherwise, a couple of 4 GB cards will be a good start

Then shoot with your camera for a few months

  6. I agree. Start small, and go from there. You're getting a D300? I'm soooo jealous! Great camera! Enjoy it!
