Question:

What things should you NOT do while you are speaking Sign Language?

Did you know if you are interpreter for the courts system you can't do your nails or wear all those rings? Even in General you can't wear all those rings or do your nails because lets say while you are signing it gets the person to whom you are signing to distracted because they instead look at your nails and NOT pay attention to what you are signing to them. This is how I feel, when people do Sign Language to me and have nails done or all those rings I feel it is rude.

What are some other no no things to do if you are either interpreting or just Signing and why is that? Besides what I mentioned!

  1. This is silly courts system telling you that.

But all I know one thing is that follow your skin colors  like if your skin color is very light then wear dark clothes or if your skin is dark then wear light clothes.

    That what I was told.

But wearing a ring or having little long nails doesn't stop you be an interpreter.

  2. Hmm. I think it's important to look at the signer's face while signing. Sometimes, my eyes will drift down to the person's hands and I'll focus on the hand movements instead of the face (over time, I think I've stopped that habit, however).

Other than disrespecting Deaf culture, I can't seem to think of any other thing not to do while signing.
