  1. Your diary is for your personal mementos.

You can put anything your wish in your diary.

Just be aware - there are other people who just love to read other people's diaries - and all of their private thoughts and activities.

Years later, you will love reading about yourself and your life.  You will reminisce about things you had completely forgotten about.

  2. I usually just have a go with my daily happenings, good or bad, and of course if something special happens, I write about it as well! Thank goodness I have a very messy handwriting so other people can't write what I wrote!

  3. rather than make it a daily log book, i'd put my personal feelings & reactions to events that have affected me. this then, does not have to be time-bound - do it as often or as rarely as one wants. and it could be a tiny matter or some bigger situation - if i felt anything, how i resolved the situation/problem, how i faced the music, how i interacted, my moods & how that may have affected others ..etc. etc. Also the new people i meet, first impressions, memories, yearnings, hope, nature, etc.

These jottings help you calm your emotions, help you to let go of expecially the bad feelings, a way to vent out your angst...

also a kind of learning lesson, especially if you go back and read what you've written after, say a year or so. that's when you realise how worked up one became over such a flimsy matter, or what a little good deed led to,..etc. You can use these insights to change your life & attitude.

i don't keep a diary. but there have been a few times when i got so worked up with stuff i had no control over that i just let my pen talk for me - put all my emotions, anger, helplessness, etc. on paper. made me feel good. later, i tore up the papers & threw them away [with or without reading them, depending on how resollved & relieved i felt] . this had been a suggestion from my maternal uncle ages back & it worked!

but the key thing is that you should be truthful to yourself when writing - if one has to maintain a facade even in a diary, no point in wasting precious time & resources.
