Dolly, my Dolly,

Why search in

Mexico...

Mother?

Dolly Dolly nickname

For a little, little girl...

Playing chirpy giggling,

Spoiled. Spoiled.

Mother. My Dolly.

Here! Louisiana!

Twenty dead years...

Visit your daughter.

My Dolly.

Mother.

Leave others at peace...

As you never did

In life.

Please.....

  1. Extraordinary!!!!  The terrible storm, and your mom......

(Actually I have heard of several older women who still go by 'Dolly'...I guess some nicknames are hard to break, LOL!)

  2. I don't understand this at all

  3. The footnotes helped as I have not seen the Weather for the area.  A rememberance triggered by the naming.  Your last stanza can be interpreted in two ways!  I am betting on the kind way! This is unusual, but a piece that carries meaning.  Who would have "thunk" it started with hurricane Dolly?  Now if you see a hurricane named "Neon", best get you rubber galoshes on, as the sparks will be flying!  lol

  4. mother is only half of a word

  5. I read "My Mother, Myself" when it was first published. This is the way of mothers and daughters. I do not know of any mother-daughter relationship that has not been stormy, including my own with both my mother and my daughter. The time comes, when one must let go, live for the present and the future. We have no Time Machine.

  6. I loved it and after you explained it it really makes sense all the way now.All your poems are so awesome though..

  7. I cant see the correlation between Ur mother and a storm accept for both visiting U and visiting Louisiana. In a previous poem U described the visit of Ur mother as a happy event..but the fear of such visit is there. The picture of the consequences of such visit is there. I just can't get the connection! But then do i have too ?

  8. Well I really can relate to this one but i could never have put it better!

  9. Now I understand....

I have a similar non-relationship with my father.

  10. Was nice your remembering your mother via a tropical storm!  Thank goodness for your extra comments really didn't know what you were talking about until I read them!  Cheers--cute poem!

  11. makes no sense to me     i guess i just dont get it

  12. Sometimes I wonder if I had kids to prove to myself I could do a better job....stormy indeed.

  13. Is it the storm or your mother that's terrorizing Mexico as she used to do to you........

Whatever....sounds like she was cruel....mean even.

Comparing her to a storm...or assimilating the two shows their power, control and destruction.

Actualy this is very good when you have more background information.

    I can see clearly now.....

  14. I have a lady friend, a bit older then me. Her given name is

"Dolly" No one ever thought her name unusal.

and there is the song, "Hello Dolly" hit by Louie Armstrong

    and others.

Hope the Dolly you mention in poem, stays way out to sea!

  15. Moms are a force of nature to be reckoned with. Mine is to me, as I'm sure I am to my daughter.
