  1. It's a solar eclipse, not lunar.  It's not visible from New York.

    You'll be able to see tomorrow's solar eclipse on TV and the internet between 5:30 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

    The only parts of the US that will actually be under the eclipse path are far northern Maine and the north slope of Alaska, which see bits of the partial eclipse.  

    Contrary to what some are saying, our problem in the New York area is not that the eclipse happens while it's still dark.  On the contrary, most of it occurs after sunrise here on the east coast.  Rather, much of the moon's shadow is passing high above the northern parts of the earth.  The apex of the moon's shadow happens to point toward the side away from us.
