In New York, since some part are uneasy to reach by mass transit, taxis operates 24-hours.

I'm guessing that unless you live in a very small community with one person driving one cab, 24 hour service is the norm.

You can call for a taxi at any time day or night.

At places where there are people aall the time, day or night, such as hotels, airports, train stations, etc. there's usually taxis sitting out front ready to pick up fares & they radio home when they leave, so other taxi drivers know there may be vacancy there.

The taxi companies have statistics on when there is the biggest demand for their services, so there's more people working for the taxi companies during day, earely evening, than at say 4 am.
