In the UK almost all employees are paid by direct credit transfer. I work for a university and my payday is the 25th of each month or the Friday before if the 25th falls on a weekend or bank holiday. My pay passes electronically into my account during the early hours of the 25th, so it can be drawn upon at the start of business. Though payday varies from employer to employer, this is how most employees are paid in the UK.
