  1. Hi Malaysia!

Half of Malaysia sees a bit of the partial eclipse tomorrow.  The edge of the eclipse runs across the peninsula from west to east, approximately through Kuala Lumpur.

You could see a little of the partial eclipse at George Town, for instance.  The eclipse starts at 7:16 p.m. Malaysia Time. The moon eats away at the solar disc for another 20 minutes until the sun sets at 7:36. As much as 13% of the sun is bitten off, not very much but at least noticeable at sunset.

I saw where one writer said that it's not possible, but this is incorrect.  Here is a link to NASA's detailed map of Friday's eclipse, showing northern Malaysia inside the eclipse area.

The map shows that the sun sets in Malaysia before mid-eclipse, but you'll still see the start, with as much as 13% of the sky covered.  Of course, the eclipse will not be total anywhere near Malaysia.  The closest place for totality is Xian, China.

If you're watching on TV or the internet, totality comes between 5:30 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. Malaysia Time Friday, depending on where the camera is placed.

  2. It doesn't.  You won't be able to see it there.  It only goes as far south and east as the Bay of Bengal.  It will end just before reaching Malaysia.
