  1. You simply can't beat Kim_Dude's answer, because he's got all the info.  I would also suggest that you check out the morning surf report on TV.  The telephone surf report has whether the competition will go by 7:15 am on it.  I don't know where you're staying, but if you're anywhere near the North Shore, that will give you time to go and check it out.  We had really beautiful weather for the first part in Haleiwa this year, with some great rides and riders.  Did you check out the news on the front page of this morning's Advertiser about Jaws in Maui?  80 FOOT FACES!!! I digress...anyway, you can always call the surf line starting at 7:15 am each day and they will let you know if the competition is going that day.  (529-SURF, if I remember correctly) --  808 area, of course.

  2. There  is no set time for WCT events.  They use what is called a waiting period.  This is typically a 7-9 day window in which they can run the contest.  This allows them to run it on days when the surf is the best.

The waiting period for Pipe starts on the 8th and runs through the 20th.  It will probably take a good 6 days to run it since there are surfers in it than a regular WCT contest, so you should have plenty of time to watch some surfing.

You'll be able to catch it on http://www.triplecrownofsurfing.com.
