  1. Not sure about India, but in China, they said around noon (not sure).

  2. India overall - 3.49pm to 6.07pm

    Delhi - 4.03pm to 5.56pm

    Nagpur - 4.21pm to  6.04pm

    Mumbai - 4.27pm to 6.03pm

    Chennai - 4.40pm to 6.07pm

    Hyderabad - 4.30pm to 6.06pm

  3. Hi Bangalore!

India is not well located to see much of this eclipse, especially south India.

In Bangalore, you'll see only about 20% of the solar disc eclipsed.  This means that you'll need special eye protection, such as welder's glasses, or at least a pinhole "camera."  Indeed, people would not even guess that an eclipse is in progress unless you know when to look.

The eclipse starts at 4:13 p.m. India Standard Time.  Mid-eclipse, with the moon biting a chunk out of the lower edge of the sun, happens at 4:56 p.m., and the moon completely leaves the solar disc at 5:37 p.m.

(I saw one writer offering hours around 1:30 in the afternoon, but he's giving the times when the eclipse is over the Canadian Arctic.  In Bangalore, the eclipse does not begin until 4:13 p.m. India Standard Time.)

By the way, perhaps you know that north India is in line to see THE grandest solar eclipse of the Twenty-first Century on July 22, 2009.  Surat, Indore, Patna and parts of Assam lie in the path of totality that morning, July 22, 2009.  Travel to see it if you possibly can.  Don't miss it!

  4. Solar Eclipse will occur between 13:34 to 18:08 Indian State Time
