  1. uhh... the distance between the earth and the sun barely changes even over a 24 hour period....

  2. Since perihelion is in January and therefore aphelion is in July:

Between aphelion and perihelion, or between July and January, the earth is gradually getting closer to the sun, therefore the time of day the sun is closest to the earth is just at the end of the day (just before midnight, if that's the beginning of your day).

Between perihelion and aphelion, or between January and July, the earth is gradually getting farther from the sun, therefore the time of day the sun is closest to the earth is just at the start of the day, or just after midnight.

You'll have to look up the exact dates of aphelion and perihelion, I don't keep them at the tips of my fingers.

  3. Around bedtime. oh wait sorry, thats my bedroom light.

  4. The sun does not vary in distance throughout the day.  I suppose, on the day of closest approach, it is closest to YOU at noon local time.

  5. The sun is closest to the earth during the Perihelion which normally occurs in January. It is not going to vary on a regular day.
