  1. Hi:

The best time to water is first thing in the morning. I would recommend from 7 a.m. until 8:30. The root systems of your grass will be well moistened for the warm day ahead. I am a landscaper and designer, and this is what I recommend to my clients, and also do myself. I will link you to the simple solutions section of my website. I just did a page on drought and water restrictions. This may help you. There is also an article on watering techniques. I hope this helps some and have a great day!

  2. you need to water first thing in the morning.  the landscapers say watering at night is a factor in fungus, etc. in grass.  do what you can when you can.  if it is very hot, i would water both intervals.

  3. I would water in the evening around sunset. It gives the grass all night to drink up. If you water in the morn, water will evaporate out of the ground faster as the day heats up.

  4. You don't want to water your lawn just before dark, or at night, as the lingering dampness at the surface will increase the lawn's chances of getting a fungus or other diseases. You want to water just before daylight, early enough so that the sun is not evaporating the water off the surface of the lawn before it gets a chance to penetrate. It is better to water deeply once or twice a week (for you, 7-8:30AM) than to water every day. The farther down the grass roots have to reach for water, the stronger and more drought-tolerant they will become, which will make the grass thicker and choke out weeds. Don't forget that a healthy lawn can go dormant (turn brown and crunchy) during a drought, but if the root system is healthy, it will come right back to green as soon as the weather gets cooler and it rains.

  5. early morning, watering at night can cause leaf and root rot.
