  1. TV coverage has been on since the races started today at 11 am, on ESPN and some of our local channels, but the actual "Kentucky Derby 134" race (Run for the Roses, the most important race of the day) is the 10th race, posting at 6:04 pm, EST.  Pre-coverage on non-local, non-sports stations, usually begin at 5 pm.

    Found this on the net:

Coverage of the race begins on Saturday, May 3, 2008 on NBC Television at 5 PM ET with post time 6:04 PM. ET.

  2. 5 pm Eastern on NBC, so 4 Central - if I am correct on the hour difference.
