  1. Mars is currently fairly close to the Sun, and sets just after sunset. Unfortunately, this means that it's probably drowned out by the daylight, so you may have a hard time seeing it. Venus, Mercury and Mars are actually fairly close together right now, so if you find one, the others will be close by. Pick a day with clear skies to the west, and look just south of where the Sun set near the horizon.

When Mars is further from the Sun, you can see it with the naked eye as a slightly orangish star. The people telling you that you need a telescope are wrong - I've seen it myself several times - but a pair of binoculars are helpful, especially now.

  2. I believe you've been fooled by the hoax e-mail that goes around every year around this time claiming Mars will appear to be the size of the moon in the sky.

On August 27, 2003, Mars had one of it's closest approaches to Earth in a long time. Still, it was far enough away that it would appear as a bright star to the naked eye. An email circulated around about this event, and it mentioned that Mars would appear the size of the full moon when viewed in a telescope at about 75 power. The e-mail got twisted around, with the year dropping out and the little detail about the telescope being necessary to make Mars appear that large getting lost in the mix, and now it goes around every year around August, and people are always fooled, because for some reason, people are willing to believe anything and everything someone sends them via e-mail.

  3. Unless you are using a telescope then never.

I think you are confusing mars with our sister galaxy Andromeda.

In 10 Billion years our sister galaxy Andromeda will be able to be visible to every one,  you can literally see the whole galaxy in about 7 Billion Years
