I started taking L-Carnitine. I have a regiment I take at night (gluclosamine, a candida cleanse and cinnamon tablets-which help for the taste of the candida pill) which I recently added the L-Carnitine (dose: 1000 mg) to that nightly regiment however Im not sure Im seeing the result I expected so Im wondering if there is a better time of day to take L-Carnitine or if there is a natural supplement you shouldn't take at/around the same time your taking the L-Carnitine? Thank you for any help!

  1. Ian C gave a good answer about the L-carnitine.

The Candida Cleanse, however, should be taken alone and on an empty stomach. So you really shouldn't be taking cinnamon or anything else with it. Here are instructions for doing the Renew Life candida cleanse (most are similar): http://www.renewlife.ca/products.php?id=...

  2. What time of day you take L-carnitine, or any other amino acid, doesn't really matter (except L-tryptophan, taken for helping you sleep, at night) but it's best taken away from food. This is because L-carnitine, being an amino acid, competes for absorption with the amino acids from the protein in the food.

As for the dose, 1000mg per day is fine. L-carnitine is usually used for problems with low energy levels, as it transports fats into cells (particularly heart muscle cells) for energy. It can also be used for actual problems with the heart, but you need a doctor's advice if that's what it is for.

  3. In the morning when you get up on an empty stomach.  Then wait about 1/2 hour before you ingest any food.

Carnitine is an isolated amino acid and with any amino acid if you want the full benefit you need to take them sepeately on an emty stomach.
