What time should I try to get in the mile?

Last time I ran, I got a 7:29, but I wasn't really going my hardest, plus it was during the hottest part of an already-hot day.

I normally get between 2:15 and 2:20 when I run 1/3 of a mile, but I just recently got 2:04 when I decided to pick up my pace a bit instead of just running fast enough to come in before everyone else. I wasn't really even out of breath at the end of this run.

I've been running 1 1/5 miles about 1-3 times a week, and I just recently managed to do a 3 mile run at a slow pace with gulps of water and stretches in between each mile.

What time should I be aiming for? I'm a 13-year-old girl (turned 13 just before I joined Y!A), and I have really long legs, but I don't stretch them out when running because I go faster and I feel like I'm using too much energy when I'm going fast.

Normally I get between 7:30 and 8 minutes when running, but I'm not really tired after these, whereas my classmates are almost passed out.

  1. Lots of obscure distances that you give times for (1/3 of a mile, 1 3/4 of a mile 1 1/15, etc. are not standard distances).

I would guess with a week or two of training you could get to 6:30

  2. You should always stretch to avoid injuries. You should be able to run the mile right under 7minutes if you work hard. You should boost your mileage at practice to get better. Try to run 3 miles without stopping.

  3. Well, I sorta calculated all your stuff and I am not gonna get into that......But I think your capable of a 6:51 mile. That is pretty good.

  4. why the h**l would you run 1/3 of a mile

  5. I'm a guy, so I might be a bit off, but if you'er not tired after the mile, you should be able to do at least 10 seconds better. So at practice, pace for a 7:15-7:20. If you're still not using all your energy, lower it even more to below 7:10 and so on. You should be really tired after a mile and it sounds like you could do pretty well based on what you said. So, keep speeding up your pace until you're comfortable enough to not pass out, but tired enough that you can't run another lap afterward. Good luck.

  6. im the same age as you and last year i got 8:02 which is really bad for me because im very athletic...so this year i told myself i had to get 7 something so i picked up my pace and got 7:17...which is alot better but i thought i could do better because i wasnt really tired...so next time im aiming for 6 something...but thats just me...for you...id say maybe 7:10 or maybe less than that if you want a real challenge...and i have long legs too so dont feel left out...lol..:]...hope i helped!

  7. I'm also 13 i used to get 7:30

and i didn't get tired so i ran faster and got 6:30

and still didn't get tired and then i tired harder and got 6:19

  8. try breaking your time down by about a minute to about 6:30 or 5:00 minutes
