I have tried to imitate the sun by keeping it on from 9 in the morning until 9 at night. Should i continue with this method or am i totally Wrong?

  1. 12 hours might be a little much. If you start seeing algae you should reduce the hours.

  2. 10 hours a day or 12, you just try to imitate the conditions of a tropical area.

  3. Lamp has to be turned on for at least 6 hours a day. It helps your plants to grow faster and give oxygen into your water.

    Hope it helped you.

  4. 10 to 12 hrs is fine for most plants.  Have you cycled your tank to get the nitrogen cycle going?  If not you should do that before you add fish.  High ammonia levels can be really hard on plants as well as the fish.

  5. No, you will eventually find that too much. Having the light on for such a long time will heavily promote algae growth so you may end up finding yourself with a serious algae problem.

It is best to leave the light off during the day as you will have natural daylight anyway, switch it on as evening draws in and leave it on for a maximum of 6-8 hours. So switch it off when you go to bed.
