What time zone does New York belong in?

I always thought it was Eastern Standard Time (-5:00) but when I went to adjust time on my computer it said that it was on Central Standard Time (-6:00). So which one does New York belong to EST or CST?What time is it supposed to be?

Eastern...yeah.

Someone has to SET the time in your computer.  You probably just haven´t done that, or did you just move from someplace Central?  You need to adjust that.  Someplace in Control Panel or preferences or something.

There are actually two different Eastern times...

One is Eastern Standard Time.  (EST).

The other is Eastern Daylight Time.  (EDT).  i.e. Daylight Savings Time.

Daylight Savings Time is used during the period from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November.  That's why your computer is one hour behind your TV when you set it to EST.  It should have been set to EDT.  (1 hour faster).  After November 2 you should revert to using EST.
