You can cross the border at anytime throughout the day. Try to avoid mid-afternoon. That's the busiest time. You can walk accross the Rainbow Bridge from either the Canadian or American side also, so expect a long delay if it is early. If you are driving you'll get through on our side fairly quickly. And no, you don't need a passport to come here. That is required for air or sea travel only. I live near Niagara, so this is pretty much the best info you will get. Enjoy and have fun on your trip.
