I am asking for a tiny toy breed dog for my b-day. I want a very tiny dog. What dogs do you suggest to be great lap dogs, and be playful too? (dog under 10lbs if possible)

  1. Toy beagles are the cutest small dogs I have ever seen...never seen one in real life only on the web so probably hard to get.

  2. Chihuahuas are great dogs. You can find good quality, but inexpensive breeders, and shelters are full of them, too. They have amazing personalities and are loyal until the end. They're great dogs all around.

There are Yorkshire Terriers, too. An amazing breed. One of my personal favorites. They are intelligent and loyal. A boy named Milo turned me to this breed, and I'm thankful. They love and need attention at almost every waking (and sleeping!) moment. They're great companions for any person. I could play tug'o'war for hours with Milo, and he'd never tire of it. He did tons of tricks from "speak!" to "find your teddy!".

Of course, not every dog is going to be exactly like the breed description. I would advise you look into your local shelter and see their toy dogs and pups before making an final decisions on a breeder. If you decide to go with a breeder, ask about every puppy individually, or give them an exact description of the kind of dog you want. Don't go for looks - that can lead to disaster. Mention that you (if you are) a first time dog owner and you're looking for a pup that is active, playful, and loves attention. If you find a breeder within your state, visit them and see the litter for yourself.

If you go with a shelter dog, bring your toy with you when you're making your decision. Play with each pup and decide based on their personality.

Be VERY careful when choosing a smaller dog because they are VERY fragile and can break their bones easily. Make sure you know what you want before you make any bad commitments.

Good luck, I hope you find the perfect puppy for your birthday!

  3. None. Get a real dog. I'm kidding... seriously though, you should look into every breed you are considering and then make the best decision based on your life style... I can't stress that enough.

Also, there is no such thing as a "tea cup"... these are just runts and often times they are poorly bred and have terrible... if not deadly and expensive health problems. Don't give into the tea cup scam..

  4. PUG! They are on average 14 pounds!!! Very playful and sweet, have the BIGGEST personalities too! They are great, I have one, she is my life! I love her to death, she is mine, all mine, she dresses up and is VERY loyal!!! Good luck!!!

  5. top 10 smallest dog breeds-

click on their name to know more about them

  6. the Bichon Frise are perfect for you. i have had one for about 10 months now and i love him so much! he is playful very lovey and is full grown and he is just under 10 lbs.

  7. how about going to your local shelter and giving a dog a second chance.

  8. Do you want an ugly one (eg. poodle, chihuahua)

Or a cute one (eg. Bichon frise)

Then out of the ones you like, find out the smallest one.

Then go from there, Also do research on the breed ;)

  9. First of all a specific breed can help with the personality of most of those dogs but each dog has their own unique personality. So when you go to look for puppies make sure you look at their personalities over their appearance as you will have to live with them for quite a while.

    I would recommend:

    Japanese Chin

    Maltese

    Havanese

  10. you should get a tea cup
