Question:

What to Get The Girl (3 years) Who Has It All?

My neice is turning three in two weeks, and I need to get her the best present ever. Problem is, she has everything she could ever want and need.

I am not a parent, so I don't know what is out there, really. Are there any great, unique, fun things I could get her that I wouldn't think of?

She's starting to homeschool for preschool this year, is there anything that I could get that would help with her learning?

She loves Dora and Disney Princess, but everything with those characters is cheaply made and tacky.

I need help! Thanks!

  1. My best friend just recently complained that her brother's son is SO spoiled, it's not even funny. He has EVERYTHING and still asks for more. After he gets a new toy, he plays with it maybe a week at the most and then forgets about it.

Therefore, if your niece has a lot of stuff already, probably I would just buy her tickets like to the zoo, or train ride (the one that offers excursions), or maybe a play for children at the local theater. However, when you go somewhere, make sure to take a picture of that, so she will remember it in the future.

I have a picture of me and my uncle. He took me to the circus for the first time on my birthday. It was very special and we still remember it even though it was a long time ago.

  2. Go to a teacher's store like "Education Station" or look up on the internet teacher supply stores around you. They have unique ecucational toys you would never see in walmart or toys r us. I have a 3 year old, she loves dress up clothes, anything from hats to scarves to pirate outfits, and its soooo good for kids to play pretend and use their imagination. I like to go to Party city or other stores like that and but clearanced halloween costumes! There is nothing cuter than watching my kids play dress up!

    Good luck!

  3. You could take her out for the day and just have fun. Maybe buy an outfit that you and her pick out together that is your style, so she can play dress up and be like her aunt.

Also, maybe you can take her to get a really cool back pack for her "homework" so that she feels like a big girl!

  4. Why not take her to the zoo or somewhere else fun, just the two of you? She will love spending quality time with her favorite Aunt!

  5. What about a sand and water table- they're fun and encourage hands on learning. They can be put outside in the summer and then moved inside in the winter.

  6. How about an eye spye bag...or some learning books that teachs her how to draw shapes, letters, and compare things.

  7. Buy her an educational pack of things.

Crayons, colored pencils, markers (washable) some watercolor paint (or the new crayola ones that have no color until you paint on a certain type of paper so the kids can’t fingerpaint your walls). Buy some reading books for her age maybe about Dora or Disney Princesses. We have a big one at our house for my stepdaughter that has a ton of princess stories in it. We just read a page or two to her every night.

Flashcards or preschool workbooks. Playdough. You may want to talk to her mother to see if this is part of her curriculum.

But my stepdaughter (almost 5) has tons of toys. Too many actually. And she doesn’t need MORE Disney toys because they’re coming out of her ears. So instead, I’ll sometimes send her these types of packages and she just loves them! Toys are great but when you teach them other types of “fun” then they open up to a whole other type of toys.

Or check into some Leap Frog games. Does she have the computer unit thing? If she does, ask her mother what other games you can buy her.

    Good luck!!!

  8. Why don't you buy her a movie pass or tickets to American Adventures (kids theme park) if they have one in your area.

    Wooden puzzles are good.

Melissa & Doug make a lot of good, durable, educational toys. See:

What about a Little Tikes kitchen, climber/slide, shopping cart, or pretend food?

  9. you can make her a photobook of special times that the two of you have spent together. it's really easy to do on sites like snapfish of shutterfly, and it's not too expensive.

i also like the idea of spending a girl's day out with her. if she's a really girlie girl, you could take her to a spa (make sure it's one that's ok to take children to) and have her hair done and nails painted. you could also incorporate a photobook of the day ... take along a digital camera and take turns taking photos of one another.

  10. Last Christmas I went out and got my niece a box which I painted for her and I filled it with craft items.  She plays with it a lot.  I painted it fuchsia with glitter - very girlie.

  11. If her parents have a savings account for her, maybe you could donate money to her account or even a bond that will mature when she's 18?

There are places on the web that you can buy a star and name it, maybe you can name one after your niece?

  12. What about those Leap pad toys that have interchangeable cartridges and books that can help with learning.

  13. I agree with Daisy08, Build-A-Bear is probably the best way to go.

Get her a giftcard or take her there, but set a budget. Things tend to add up.

OR, if you really really want to spend money, get her a Bitty Baby from American Girl. If you live in or near New York City, Chicago, LA, Houston or Alanta, you can have a special outing for the two of you at the American Girl Place OR if you don't you can order one from their website. They are $42 and their outfits are around $20-$26.

    Good luck!

  14. How about a Build a Bear gift card?  I got my neice one for her birthday and she had the best time!

  15. Getting some supplies for her homeschooling would be great, you could search the Internet for some supplies or just go to staples and get a bunch of stuff and fill up a basket, markers, crayons, glue, pencils, erasers, stickers, calender, workbooks, etc.  Then if that's not enough give her money for her savings account or a savings bond.  She will be so excited with the other stuff  and her parent's would appreciate the money for her.  It sounds like she really doesn't need more toys and you are right they are cheaply made.  Good Luck.
