  2. positive atmosphere and no more of whatever he is addicted to, believe it or not if you can get someone to find something to read it will take their mind off the drugs and help thru a period of time, and thats what you are fighting, a period of time. With enough time go by the pull of the drugs or whatever will go away to a point where the person can resist the urge if they really want to quit, in the end they have to want to stop, its a choice they have to make.
