I have 2 kids, who have a 8 year age differance. The one can't read, or move too much. Her stomach gets upset quickly on air flights. The other moves too much. He doesn't like games or reading. What should I bring for them to do on the plane?

  1. Headphones, music, ipod. Also, portable dvd player.

If not possible, you may have to bring snacks or buy them on the plane.

How old are they? The older one probably knows what he or she would like to do. Even looking out the window can be neat on a flight.

For kids who get an upset stomach due to motion sickness, try an otc med like dramamine.

  2. coloring books. portable dvd player. stuff like that

  3. I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my three children, between Europe and California about twice a year plus shorter hops in between.

My children are *volcanos* they are so prone to motion sickness but while our car can get scary, only once has anyone thrown up on board. My second child, who is the most sensitive, actually threw up twice on the way to the airport but then was fine for the flight. They definitely do better in the air than in the car!

Because of family drug allergies, I had to wait till they were old enough for Bonine. I couldn't risk Dramamine which has unpleasant side effects. I think they have to be 6 for Bonine but talk to your doctor. Make sure you try out any meds on the ground first and remember that all medications are stronger in the air.

Make sure they're fed before the flight and don't let especially the one who might get sick, move around during take-off, landing or tubulence. Don't even let them lean forward but have them stare ahead and breathe deeply. Buy water too, after security (since it's not allowed through) and perhaps have a plastic bag handy with some tissues. I doubt you'll need them.

Most of our young passengers actually got sick on landing so just be aware of that very critical time. That's actually good news as you're leaving the aircraft. Clean your child up but don't waste too much time on the clean-up. Signal to a Flight Attendant as to what just happened (as if they don't already know!) Get off the aircraft and don't delay disembarking if everyone is leaving, since the cleaners are some of the first on board.

It's such a quick flight that they wont need a lot to entertain them. They barely have time for a movie, if you bring a portable DVD player. Just make sure they're fully charged before leaving home!

I think just flying will entertain them for such a short time. Maybe take a walk in the cabin. I'm sure they'll get something to drink, etc. Let them pick things out and carry them themselves, if the younger one is no longer a toddler.

Otherwise, hope it goes well and have a good time wherever you're headed.

  4. For the little one, picture books might help.  I would check with the doctor for something for the stomach.  If you give them dramamine, you might not have to worry about entertaining, but bring the stroller on board, you might have a sleeping child after only 2.5 hours!  (dramamine makes people sleepy).

For the older one, go to Target, and spend 10 or 11 dollars on one of those hand-held games...my son has yahtzee, and I have tetris.  They entertain us for hours!  (but you have to limit them at any other time!)
