  1. Definitely bring everything you would normally take along for a day in the city- a big enough bag, a camera (with a big memory card, in 19 days you'll take a ton of pictures!), batteries, good walking shoes, etc.

People in Paris are known for being fashionable, you don't really see people in the streets wearing sweatpants or athletic wear (except maybe some obvious tourists). As far as going into the city, jeans are probably fine, you do want to be comfortable after all. Also, girls tend to be more conservative with their clothing than in the US, so don't bring anything too short or skimpy.  Make sure you have something warm to wear in the evenings, and something waterproof in case it rains.

Also, carry money with you, like in other major cities, food, souvenirs, etc. tend to be expensive, plus you're probably going to want to shop a lot! (and assuming that you're from the US, remember that any cash you exchange for euros is worth about half the amount, for example, $100 USD right now will only get you a little over 50 Euros, so be prepared)  A credit or debit card is really helpful so you don't have to carry as much cash, but you'll have to tell the credit card company you'll be traveling abroad before you leave so that they aren't suspicious of international charges.

A French-English dictionary will help if you don't know a whole lot of French, for translating menus, etc. Paris is really touristy and you will find a lot of other tourists speaking English, and most major attractions have things translated into English, but if you can, try to speak French to people first, they will appreciate and respect that more than if you expect them to speak English.

Make sure you have some kind of converter for your electronics and chargers.  Also, if you plan on using your cellphone look into what you need to do to use it abroad and how much it will cost you.  Make a photocopies of the photo page of your passport and put them in each bag you bring, this can really help you if for some reason you lose your passport while traveling.

You're really lucky that you get to be there for so long!  Take tons of pictures and do lots of shopping! Have fun!!

  2. go to www.frommers.com has alot of advice and tips.

  3. The other advice is good.  It is a walking city and people use the metro a lot too.  Bring a good camera.  Be careful..most people are nice, but there are thieves so keep your wits about you.   Have a nice fun trip, you'l find it very interesting I am sure.

  4. Get yourself a copy of the DK Eyewitness guide for Paris, and it'll tell you all you need to know about the city and getting around it.

A good camera. Travel insurance. Good walking shoes.

  5. I would suggest a French-English pocket dictionary, Pepto-Bismol, and aspirin. The medicines are not available in grocery stores. You  must go to a pharmacy and sometimes they close early.

  6. Definitely take a French dictionary and grammar book.  The French appreciate attempts to speak to them in their own language.  If you are struggling, they will usually come to your rescue and speak English.

Wear comfortable shoes.  Paris is a city which is best enjoyed on foot.

Be sure to take some time to just sit in a sidewalk cafe and enjoy the scenery.  Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Visit the Tuileries Gardens and the Louvre.  Also, while it may seem very touristy, go up the Eiffel Tower.

I envy you.  Paris is best enjoyed when you're young.
