My brother is now in new zealand visiting and is asking me what i would want from new zealand..

If you live in a cold climate possum wolly socks are a must. Your feet will never be cold again and possum fur is so very soft.

Greenstone jewlery is also a very traditional gift, or paua necklaces

If someone were visiting NZ and asked me what I wanted, it would be them... definately! However... if you are after a uniquely NZ gift, perhaps some jewellery made of bone or greenstone, manuka honey products (very good for your health), or comvita products (bee pollen based products, also very good for your health).

Some artwork might be nice too, since NZ culture is rather unique.

I would recommend a gorgeous greenstone or manaia (bone carving) necklace. I´m from NZ but now living abroad and wear either one on a daily basis and constantly get compliments and stares from strangers in the street. A gorgeous, medium-sized bone carving or greenstone will set you back about $50 NZD, but there are many cheaper versions readily available for around $10 NZD aswell. There are many designs which the carvings come in, and each represent something different according to the designs used (such as balance, protection, harmony etc.), plus traditionally manaia are supposed to be given to you, not bought for yourself so it is quite fitting that your brother will be buying it for you!

Something made of green stone, is a must have from New Zealand. Chocolate is another good one. Fejoa boiled sweets. Wool products are also very good.

A small sheepskin rug or sheepskin boots.

A greenstone or paua shell pendant.

Pois - cool balls on a string that are used in Maori culture for dancing.

A flax woven bag called a Kete.

A Kiwi fluffy toy

New Zealand Manuka Honey - delicious and has excellent healing properties.

Jaffa's - Chocolate balls coated in an orange candy shell - YUM!!!!

Pineapple Lumps - Chewy pineapple candy with a chocolate coating.

Buy food that's totally NZ.  L&P soda, Perkynana, wine (ask the store to pack it in polystyrene so you can take it in luggage - don't go for dutyfree wine) as an example.  NZ cookbooks - Jo Seager, Julie Buiso etc.  NZ calendar is always lightweight and easy to pack in baggage.  Fridge magnets from each place he visits.  My fridge is covered!

Greenstone or Jade is a lightweight option, but make sure it's from NZ.  Some stores sell Greenstone that has been imported from Asia.

How about a Rugby sweater?  A possum--mink (a blend of merino and possum hairs) throw that he can take on the aircraft with him.  Goofy tourist Tshirts.
