A week ago my sister's siberian dwarf hamster gave birth to 7 babies but there's only 6 now because she probably ate one. The mother was healthy yesterday night but when we woke up this morning she was near death and then she died. What are we suppose to do now? Since they're dwarf hamster babies they're so small and we never touched them with our bare hands when the mother was alive but since she's gone I am able to touch them without gloves which is so much easier but the babies feel so cold, is that normal because they don't have fur yet?

  1. I am very sorry to hear about the death of the mother hamster. From my experience, you can feed them kitten or puppy milk replacer (KMR) with syringes but there is a lot more to do other than feeding them like keeping them warm and helping them defecate.

Please go through this site which will give you all the information you need to take care of orphan hamsters.

Since the pups are only 7 days or less, adoption by another mother hamster needs to be considered since they still need "mother's milk" to survive and grow into healthy pups. The best way would be to get in touch with a professional breeder near your home quickly without wasting time who can arrange for adoption of pups by a current nursing mother hamster which they would have in the breeding center (breeders know how to do this since they have faced situations like this before). Go for it soon, the sooner you do it, the better are the survival chances for the pups.

    All the best!

  2. yes, you need to place a heating pad under the cage to give them heat. place a small blanket over the pad before placing the cage on it so the plastic/metal doesnt get too hot.

also, place a small washcloth over them, or some where in the cage they can kinda cuddle under to keep them warm.

so sorry about your momma hamster! =[

  3. They need heat. There mother use to keep them warm. Try a heating pad or go to the pet store. They will have everything you need. Just tell them your situation.

  4. Make sure you keep the baby hamsters warm. If they are under 10 days old you must feed them milk. ( Kitten formula, NOT cow milk)

Try feeding them with a medical syringe or small bottle.

Sadly, its hard for them to survive without their mother.

    Good Luck,
