there's a small bee hive (could be wasps) at my child's school, its kind of hidden fom view and about the size of a small fist, i told the school office people last week but its still there today. Any responsible people i can call who would take the bees to a safe place, bees are on the decline i dont want anyone hurting them....

  1. go to the hardware store and get a can of bee bomb . read the directions and go to town.

  2. If you're willing to pay for it, many pest companies will do hive removal for a fee (and take the hive elsewhere away from populations to let the creatures live on their own).

Otherwise, contact the district office.  Bees are relatively harmless if left alone, but there could be a kid with a bee sting allergy and the school is leaving that kid at risk for DEATH.  And if they're wasps, well...those little buggers can be dangerous.  Tell the D.O. that you've contacted the office about the matter and the hive has not been removed and you're concerned.

  3. They're probably wasps or hornets.  Bees don't build nests out in the open.  Tell the principal, not the workers in the office.

  4. You may have to pay for these services, but I would call an exterminator to take a look and determine if it was a wasp nest or a bee hive.

If it is a wasp nest, I would pay and have it exterminated.  If it is a bee hive, I would look in the phone book for bee keepers.  If there are none, call the closest farm supply and find one through them.  They can come out and relocate the hive to another area.

And, thank you for being aware of the value of bees!

  5. You're probably going to have to decide between the two:  do you want the wasp/bee nest down quickly or do you want them not to be hurt?  It's unlikely that the school is going to do both.

You might go ask the science/biology teacher(s) if they ever study insects to see if they know of any resources.  Beekeepers, etc.  You also might call a local university.  Sometimes they have hives (for bees).  Not so sure about wasps.
