What to do about a person who is spreading lies about you?

i have an ex friend who lives in a another state spreading lies about me and a friend of mine shes never even met.

i can handle her trashing me but not him

i am happily married so is the guy friend and not to each other. we both have great husbands. this girl is clearly jealous. why i dont know shes married too.

she is telling people i am cheating with my friend and im divorcing my husband for him. not true.

confronting her is out she is scum and a liar besides. what can i do to protect my friend from her knowing the truth isnt enough

Live your life and continue to carry on your friendship as you always have. You'll take the wind out of her sails when she hears that you are not acknowledging or responding to her lies. Same goes for your friend.  She won't be getting the reaction she's seeking, except from those she's telling the lies to.

SPEAK TO YOUR SPOUSE ABOUT HER THEN DO THE SAME TO HER.AND SEE HOW SHE FEELS AND LIKE IT WHEN THE TABLES ARE TURN TO HER..

This girl is such a slag.

Anyone who knows you and your friend should believe that you wouldn't do that to your spouses, and the spouses should believe that too. You may have done something to p**s her off that you're not aware of (people get mad for stupid reasons). There's really nothing else you can do if you don't want to confront her. Assure your husband and the friend's wife that there's nothing going on between you two and try to go from there.

talke to someone who knows her well and that way maybe she will listen to that person...or you can start spreading lies about her and see how she feels about it.
