What to do about a smashed digit? ?

I know (of) a guy who is good working with his hands, and frequently smashes fingers to blueness/purpleness. Well, today I really, really smashed my bigtoe and it is very blue, and swollen with blood. What do I need to do? I have no insurance.

Will it heal on its own?

Yeah, sounds fractured and it sucks to pay a Doc but sometimes you have to.

Relax and focus on the toe, feel the tension from the swelling and command it to drain away. I'm a carpenter hitting fingers with hammers is so common that I can stop the swelling process before it begins. Instead of 3 days of swelling  and a week of pain, I've got it down to 1day of pain and 3 days of mild discomfort. It all comes down to relaxing the surrounding tissue and restoring circulation.
