My little girl has lice, I guess she caught it at school We have taken her to the doctor, treated it at home, and done everything we know to do. We know we are getting rid of them but unfortunately some parents don't care as much. Anything we can do to keep her from getting them again or get rid of them for good? Please help.

  1. Er..... my mum gets treatment from the pharmacy and while i wash my hair i put it on and stay for 5 mins or 10 but you've probably done that anyway......

Get a lice comb and take time brushing through her hair until there's absolutly NO tangles and then search for lice and then you could treat a different way - as soon as you've brushed the hair and searched ffro lice get the treatment and put it all over the hair , the roots of the hair , EVERYWHERE! And leave fro 10mins or 5mins I'm sure it might work if it doesn't do it everyday, brush the hair regulary with the lice comb and do the same with the treatment or while she is having a bath put conditioner on her hair and brush it with the lice comb....Good luck.

  2. I was told most people overlook stuffed animals put them in the dryer on high for a while too.

Also I make sure my kids know to take off any coat and fold them up and put them in their book bags.  Everyone tells their kids to stay away from other heads, but I think that the clothes are way easier to pass on.  Also if they can put the book bag away from the others.

Use Aqua net, not sure what about this hairspray works but it does!  Spray it around their lower area of their heads, near the neck and ears (lice loves to set up there)

  3. This reminds me back in 1980's when my ex-wife and I moved to Seattle from San Juan.  We stayed with a good friend, Jim in a small house, and he had 2 dogs.  We got lice in our hair when my brother checked my wife's hair.  He told me he paid $50 for a shampoo bottle to kill lice for his kids.  I couldn't afford that.   Jim and I went to the pharmacy to buy 2 different lice shampoo bottles at a low price.  I bought a rubbing alcoholic bottle at 59 cents each at that time, so we could experiment with these 3 different bottles on  lice that we found under the folding bed sofa where the dogs always slept on.  We tested 3 different liquids on lice.  The 2 commercial lice kill shampoos did not kill lice very well.  Only rubbing alcoholic killed all of lice instantly!  We bought many rubbing alcoholic bottles to shampoo the carpet and sofa, etc.  We even shampooed that rubbing alcoholic to our hair.  Lice was gone!  Miracle!  You might want to try this to your little girl, but if she is too young, you can put a towel on her face while you pour it over her hair, then shampoo it!   You will be glad you did.

  4. you have to treat her and my mom use to put mayo in my hair and make me sleep with it for one night, it killed off any that was still living after the treatment..worked i never got it again

  5. you should probably

    tell the principle about

the lice, and have the principle

have a head inspection, like the

    principle should probably hire

    a nurse.

  6. buy tea tree oil shampoo

  7. Does the school know. Usually they will send a letter home with all the kids just saying that there have been cases of lice at school. The school nurse will check everyone.

Remind your daughter not to borrow anyone elses comb, brush, hair ties, hats, headbands ect. And not to borrow any of hers to anyone else.

Wash all bedding, coats pillows ect.

Throw at all combs and anything else that goes in her hair or anyone elses that she shares with. YOu can try to wash it but, it is less of a hassle to buy new.

Check everyone in the house daily for a week or so.

I used all the over the counter stuff with my kids, even the prescription stuff the only thing that worked was olive oil. Leave on for a couple of hours. You need to use Dawn dishsoap to get it out.

  8. Conditioner is good,so leave it in then use the fine tooth comb to comb them out,the lice and nits can,t stick to the hair follical as it too greasy for them to get a grip,Can,t stand the things myself even feel itchy thinking about them,Also you can put tea tree oil at the back of her ears, apparently they hate the smell, you can buy a louse repellent at the chemist and spray it in the hair every morning to keep them at bay.good luck.

  9. fact: the cleaner the hair, the more likely the lice will settle there and multiply :)

  10. Headlice.org has some great information and tips on how to get rid of it....

You should use an oil based product rather then the shampoos they sell at the store. Baby oil GEL is a good product. It leaves the hair oily for a few days..... but worth it for killing the lice. Recheck her hair every 2 or 3 days for a week to make sure you haven't missed anything.

Check and make sure she doesn't hang her jacket with someone elses at school (own cubby/locker space) if so get her a reusable plastic tote bag to put it in and then hang it.

Make sure not to forget to treat places like hair brushes and hair ties (or just store hair ties for a couple weeks).

    Good luck

  11. I feel your pain. First, make sure that you put away all her stuffed animals for at least a month. Second, after you brush or comb her hair, put the brush or comb into water that you've brought to boiling so that the heat will kill any nits you might have missed. Wash her bedclothes in hot water and dry in a hot dryer. Some people don't think the furniture spray is worthwhile but it seems to have helped in our situation. Don't forget to wash out her coats and jackets. We missed that last time and she got reinfected. Some people say that putting tea tree oil into the shampoo repels lice. I don't know if that's true but it's worth a try. Finally, stress to her that she has to keep her head away from other people's heads and she is never, never, never to share a brush or a hair adornment. Period. Good luck.

  12. Ouch. Lice are really nasty. There are shampoos to kill them off but the eggs are a problem. I had lice when I was young and my mother used the shampoo on me everyday, all my stuffed animals, blankets and clothing were put in the dryer and then in air-tight plastic bags. But they never left. It was horrible and, finally, she chopped off my hair because there was no other way to get rid of them.

The back of the neck and behind the ears are where they mostly are and the school usually hires someone to check the students for lice. If lice are found, the children are normally sent home, as well.

All answers above are great advice, by the way. Mayonnaise or Vaseline in hair can kill them but eggs might still be a problem...

  13. there is some kind of spray you can buy at drug store don't know if it works as i have never used it though. are you positive you are getting every single nit out? the shampoo doesn't kill all of the eggs and you need to make sure you get them all out, and those combs that come with the treatment do not work that well you may have to do it by hand

  14. If your daughter has long hair make sure to keep it put up and let her know not to share brushes, jackets, hats, ect... you can also use a capful of tea tree oil in her shampoo. I used it on my daughter when she was in kindergarden we havent seen one sense.

  15. Let her school know about the problem. Many schools do a routine check on elementary children. If yours doesn't you should suggest that they start.
