Question:

What to do about male razor bumps?

Hi, I'm a male age 24 and I'm having problems shaving... The hair on my face tends to be thick and grows extremely fast (ex: if I shave in the morning then by early afternoon I've got a 5 o'clock shadow well before it's 5 o'clock). Every time I shave I end up getting a bad case of razor bumps (usually just on my neck) though sometimes it doesn't show up till a couple of days after I shave. I recently replaced my razor blade (I'm using Gillette fusion as the 5 blade system seems to work best on my face compared to 3) but do to the last time I shaved I still had a bad case of razor bumps (needed to shave for a job interview) so it didn't help matters. I was wondering what products or things could I do to get a better shave and help prevent the field of razor bumps I'm currently plagued with as well as helping to get rid of that which I'm currently plagued with?

  1. I'd suggest that you change your razor .

Try using a disposable like the Bic for Sensative Skin along with barbolol Shave cream for Sensative Skin .

NEVER use an alcohol based after shave lotion / cream .

Try finding a moisturizing lotion with aloe for the shave bumps ect IF they still continue .

  2. It is caused shaving against the grain and pulling the hair instead of cutting the 1st pass. Aftershave works best for that.  It should be ok by the end of the day.  The double blade works just as good, but always assure a fresh sharp one. Next time shave the other direction.

  3. I used to have the same thing.  Here is what I did. FIrst of all, use an exfoliant.  I use an apricot scrub from Walmart, an off brand.  You will find it in the cosmetics section.  Scrub your face with this, or you can find some men's products that have an exfoliating substance in them.  This will get rid of the dead skin and make your shave smoother.  Second of all, go with the grain of you hair first.  On your neck and chin, that is strarting from the bottom of your neck and moving up to your chin.  Most guys go down from chin to neck....don't do that.  On your face, it is from the top of cheek down to go with the grain.  I do go against the grain, only after I go with the grain.  THis makes it a closer shave.  If you don't, it won't be as close.  Thirdly, I shave every other day.  This helped me to avoid the bumps.  Also, shave after you take a shower, this loosens the pores and softens your hairs.  I don't always use an aftershave because it burns.  I would find a lotion in the mens section at the store specifically for your face.  SInce I started doing these things, I don't get bumps at all!!!!!  Good luck!

  4. The fusion blade is great and will give a shave that makes your face as smooth as a baby's butt.  However - don't press too hard as it will give razor burn badly.  Mennen's "Afta" is great for right after shaving to prevent razor burn.  Get the "Original" formula - not the pre-shave or the blue label.
