Question:

What to do about my cat

My cat is 9 years old and I don't know what to do. Last winter she was urinating on my carpet, my vet felt it was due to arthritis, so she now receives a shot once a month. He gave me a cleaner for my carpet, we replaced the padding underneath and so far, no more problems with that.

However, every time I have to take her to the vet, I cannot get her to come out from under the bed. She typically will not come out until my kids go to bed. Unfortunately, the vet isn't open that late. I have tried to bribe her with food, treats and everything you can imagine. But every time when I finally do get her she ends up urinating on me, the carpet, or anything she can because she is so mad at me.

In addition to this, she has been vomiting for about the last 2 years. This also has taken it's toll on my floors. We have a new house that we built 4 years ago and my husband is not happy. We were gone over the weekend and she threw up while we were away. It stained my floor in the kitchen. I am not able to remove the spot. She is on medicine currently for vomiting that is $60 a month, but obviously is not working.

I love my cat, I have had her since she was born. But she is ruining my floors. She does not like the kids (6 and 3 year old). I don't know what to do. To be completely honest, I would give her away to someone that would want her, but who wants a urinating, vomitting cat in their house?

Anyone have any suggestions that I can try? I am at my wits end.

  1. Well, you have many problems with that kitty...

to make sure she doesn't go under the bed, you could put boards so she can't get under. Is she litter trained? it doesn't really sound like she is, but if she does go in the litter box, reward her with treats. Maybe, if she goes and has "accidents" in the same place, or wees a lot in one spot, put the litter box there. Maybe you could use a spray bottle. And if the thing with the boards and the bed doesn't work, when you eventually get her out, show her it's a good thing to go to the vets. Give her lots of attention and treats. For the puking, if you see her about to do it, get a napkin, put it down, and pick her up. It might work, but it might not. WARNING! you may get cat puke on you with this procedure. Same thing with the peeing, if you see her peeing, pick her up, even if she is in mid-pee, she'll stop. Then carry her to her litter box.

    I hope this helps!

  2. I have one suggestion about why she is hiding when you take her to the vet because you are probably telling her that you are. You should leave the carrier out as much as possible. And when the day comes just pick her up when you see her and put her in. You might also want to try a bigger carrier. Because she might be resisting you so much because the carrier is too small. Also a good urine and throw up remover is simple solution. My cat throws up all the time to and that gets it out. You also could try a better quality cat food like wellness. I know it's more expensive which is why I am currently not feeding my cats that but I've heard many people say that it ends up being cheaper in the long run because they don't have to eat as much to get full. Good luck.
