Question:

What to do about my crazy mother?

My mother is completely insane. She insists that everyone is out to get her. She claims that her boyfriend isn't over his ex-wife when in fact she (my mother) is the one that's obsessing over her. She claims that my father has brain washed me to treat her like c**p. Indeed I do not treat her in a respectable manner at times, but over several years of abuse and disrespect from her I have finally decided to treat her the way she has treated me. My mother is very extremely obsessive. I am 20 years old, but yet she treats me like a child. Days that she's at work she will call home looking for me. If I am not home, she will text my cell phone asking me where I'm at and what I'm doing. Everyday I go to work and come home. I cannot have a normal life. Recently me and my ex worked things out after a 3 month separation. She was very upset when she found out that I went to see him. In a few months I plan to move back in with him. I'm not sure how to tell her in fears that she will blow up on me. Any suggestions?

  1. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but ... your mother is fine. It's you that's crazy. You've been quite wounded emotionally since you were very little, and you still have a lot of growing up to do and a lot of counseling work ahead of you.

Please don't hate the messenger, I'm only trying to help.

  2. get your mother to a psychologist ASAP! she needs help. sounds like she has paranoid schitzophrenia. treat her with respect. she needs your help. she has to be treated and be on meds for this. after you get her some mental help---then explain to her that you and your ex boyfriend are getting back together again. she will understand it better then. she probably dont realize that she is obcessive and controlling. this is mental. good luck.  she is your mother.

  3. I suggest moving out on your own.  You're an adult now and the best way to make that clear to her is to stop being a dependent child.

I also advise getting a roommate instead of living with your boyfriend, but that's a whole 'nother Oprah.
