What to do about noisy nextdoor neighbours?

I have to write a huge essay by tomorrow, but this music from next door is breaking my focus. My mom worries about her image too much and refuses to complain, saying they have a right to play music. But it's for them to hear, not me, and I can hear it even though my window isn't open! It's really loud and bothersome. What should I do? I can't focus in any other room either.

I don't know how old you are but you should go say something yourself. Most people are reasonable enough to turn their music down if it is bothering someone. Your mother should also be more concerned with your education than with her image.

This can be tricky...  Are you old enough to go over and ask yourself?  I'm sure if you explain to them about your essay they will understand.  If someone came over and told me that my music was too loud and they were working on an essay, I would feel bad and turn it down right away!  They can't tell how loud it is in your place.

Or, is there a library nearby that you could do your work at?

ETA:  Or, you could play your own music softly through headphones.  I normally can't concentrate with any music, but one I had to drown out other noises like you do, and when I control what is playing, it's much easier for me to focus and I found I can do better with some of my own quiet music playing...  Can't hurt to try!
