Hi all.

When my little hamster woke up last night and i got him out of his cage to go in his ball, i noticed that his little foot was a right old mess. 1 of his toes was twice the size and it was blood red, also he has little white legs and feet and all of his foot was red and bruised. It wasn't there the night before when i put him back to bed after being out, so he has done it in his cage over night at some point.

Any way he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort at all he is eating fine was happy to be running round last night. I have phoned our vet and we have an appointment tonight after work, but i was wondering if this has happened to any one elses little hammy and if so do you have any idea what maybe wrong just my day is going really long at work and i know it will carry on so, until i get him to the vet. Does it sound like his little toe maybe broken to any one?

Thank you in advance any advice will be great.

  1. He may have trapped it in his wheel or something, the vet won't x-ray though because hamsters are to small and would not survive, my friends hamster did the same last week, it was £25 to see the vet but there was no trearment. He just said it would get better. good luck!

  2. My hamster hurt her foot once.  Hers went white rather than red and she was limping around.  I got in a right panic thinking her leg must be broken and whisked her off to the vet who, to my relief, found that there was nothing wrong.

In a few days, the limping lessened and she was right as rain in no time.

I'd get her looked at just to be on the safe side, but I'm sure that your hammie has simply caught his foot in the bars whilst climbing around or something like that and done a minor injury that will heal up on its own.

Hope I've helped to put your mind at rest, and I hope your hammie is okay.

By the way, even if the worst has happened and Simon has broken his toe, although vets can't repair this, it tends to heal up by itself and, although the hamster might be a bit limpy for the rest of its life, they usually aren't bothered by it in any way.

  3. it might of caught its foot on the bars of the cage iif u have a wire cage or it could of fallen of a level if any me not no hope it gets better

  4. its most likely to be broken, as the vet cant put a cast on it, you will have to put him in a cage where he cant climb on anything, and no wheel until it has healed. maybe a fish tank

  5. No it hasnt happend to mine.

    It sounds strange..

Maybe it had trapped it in something over night x

like in his weel or something

    Good Luck

    Hope I helped

  6. his foots just Bruised it happens when they tarp there feet in the wheel.

If your wheel is made of metal with little Barr's for him to run on ,I recommend that you get a plastic one with no Barr's to catch is feet in.

If this is the type of wheel you have your lucky it was just his foot my friend's hamster got his head stuck it wasn't pretty.
