Question:

What to do about tennis shoes?

I play on the high school girls tennis team, going into 10th grade this year

I got a pair of tennis (sport specific) shoes (from sports authority- kswiss, about 50$) last year

As i'm doing side to side drills (left alley to right alley over and over) the balls of my feet start to hurt and then are a little sore for the next few hours. They are sore only after i do the side to side drills, never any other drills.

What can I do to eliminate the soreness? Do i need new shoes? a gell pad inside?

Any help that you've tried would be great

  1. Some shoes don't have good support for lateral movements. When you buy your shoes, try them on and mimic tennis movements with them. Make sure they fit snugly but not tight. Get the right shoe width. Some people don't consider that. They buy the shoes for the looks. The looks won't get you anywhere when you're limping. Don't go with brands either, coz you're not getting paid to wear the brand. Buy coz they fit right. Try on different shoes and buy the shoes that feels right the best. The gel pads may help. Wearing double socks will do good cushioning too. Helps with fit without compromising comfort.

  2. I play number three singles on my high school team, I am going to be a senior. I just bought new shoes for this season, I got the Adidas Barricade--series 2. They cost $110, but they are the best shoes I have had since I started playing tennis in 5th grade. They have great support, I have had the same problem as you before, and I would reccommend just getting new shoes, since the ones you have now give you problems and are a year old.

One reason your feet may be hurting while doing that drill is because your shoes aren't giving you enough ankle support and cause your feet to move inside the shoe. Bring that up while your at a shoe store getting new ones, and they should be able to tell you which shoes are the best for that.

    Hope I helped =]

  3. Which Kswiss show model did you buy?  Not all Kswiss tennis shoes are  created equal.  I would recommend the Kswiss Glaciator or the Ascendor, which cost around $80-100.  The Adidas Barricade series (the Barricade II is my favorite, and its cheaper than the newer models) are also very good tennis shoes.  Good tennis shoes cost around 80 dollars and up.  They give you more support on the side to side lateral movement, which you apparently need. Make sure you lace up your shoes a bit tighter, and put in an insert for more cushioning as a quick fix.  Good luck finding your shoes!

  4. I'd go to a store with knowledgeable sales staff and explain your situation... This might be a big sporting goods store, but you'd have better luck if you went to a tennis specific store.

Tennis shoes are built differently for different foot types (pronated, supinated) so it is important to get one that is right for your foot type.

If the sales rep doesn't ask you about your foot type, or if you tell him what type you have and he gives you the "deer in headlights," look, it might be better to look elsewhere.

If you can't find any body knowledgeable about feet, I'd go to http://tennis.com/yourgame/gear/index.as...  and look at the shoe reviews. you'd find a lot of useful information
