What to do about the devastating forest fires in Turkey?

Where to apply for an effective tree planting campaign? With, all students and citizens planting saplings in the nearby fire sites? With the help and guidance of forest engineers?

METU was founded in a wasteland. Every year at a certain time, all students are called to plant trees, and now METU has a veritable forest on its land. Why not repeat the same for natural forests?

GOVERMENT MUST MAKE SURE THAT PARENT/GUARDIAN OF EVERY CHILD REGISTERED TO NUFUS SHOULD PLANT A TREE IN TO ARRANGED AREAS AND EVERY NEWLY WEDS TOO. IT MUST BE MANDATORY. ANYBODY WHO WAS FOUND GUILTY OF BURNING FIRES IN THE FOREST SHOULD BE SENTENCED TO PLANT NEW FIDANS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

Congratulations to for your effort guys and also to all who are really worried and acting to solve this kind of problems... when i watch the news and i see there is forest fire i am really sad and i feel unable to do something. Beside some actions like that project you are doing in METU there should be a campaign on tv, schools news papers radyo etc where people be concious and understand the importance of taking care of the forest specially in picknik seasons, i noticed that in Turkey there is a picknick culture and wherever there is a tree available there will be someone doing picknic (i am not againts this tradition) but we as a human beings should be concern about the big damage we are causing for not be carefull in the way we set the fires for mangal or more important the way we finish the fire cause a few amount of burning ash would be the cause of big forest fires and beside pick up our garbage and put in to the trash containers unafortunatly everiting is linked and i am so sad that turkish are dealing with a lot of problems like religion and politics but i dont hear that they are worried for the ecological problems and i see that everyone make their picknick and afther finish they also leave their bags of trash in the place they were sitting....

Your idea guys is very good but also would be interesting to create a kind of brigade of young people during summer time (wich is the time they are on vacations) and invite them to be part of a team in charge of taking care of forest ? it would improve the interest from young generations for the ecology and the care of nature.

Maybe an additionnal national tax for every tourist, required at customs office, could finance reforestation in all the devasted areas...

Imagine, for instance, 50 YTL per tourist...Millions of tourists visiting Turkey every year...Maybe the semi-desert zones in South-Eastern Anatolia could turn into Amazonia thanks to these billions YTL...

I think land for building hotels is becoming rare so they are busy with causing more land to accidentially become free for building purposes.

I would say parties like CHP, DSP or MHP (as in "opposition") should concentrate more on issues like this instead of advocating for Ergenekon.

We should build our own helicopters.Think about a chinook style 10 tn.tank carrying two rotor helicopter and rain on to the fire for a while.This can be remote controlled.We have companies to build it as TUSAS-TAÄ°.

Also after we construct enough of that helis we can export it to countries as Canada Portugal Spain Greece who suffers as us from the fire

plus+ we can  grow trees faster with hydrophonics to replace the burned ones.
