  1. i think you should write a poem about your feelings and then read it at the poetry slam.

  2. The usual poetry slam rule is that you'll have no more than three minutes to recite your poem.  (You'll lose points if you run longer  by more than 10 seconds, but there's no penalty for taking less than the full three minutes.)  Your poem has to be original.  That is, it has to be something that you wrote, and you have to recite it from memory.  You're not allowed to read it from the page.  You won't be allowed any props, costumes pieces, or musical accompaniment.  If you compete in more than one round of the slam, you should recite a different poem in each round.

(Check with the organizers of the event to see if they are working with these standard rules or with some modified version.)

  3. Poetry slams are awesome.  You can read a poem, however, if you are a bit nervous, and have truly never been to a slam before, get your poetics wet by being a judge.

Have fun, no matter what happens!

  4. You recite one of YOUR poems in front of a crowd. They will compare you to other participants and one person will win.
