  1. swimming in the canal

  2. Not much mostly walk around and rid gondolas.

  3. strolling, eating, dancing, sleeping

  4. At dusk you can take a stroll to the Cannaregio or Ghetto Nuovo areas of the city. It is where the real Venetians live, away from the noise and all the turists hanging at the Rialto and St. Marco. Enjoy the quiet back streets and canals and the architecture for a while before going into a restaurant or cafe. Enjoy some wine and Venetian "cicchetti" (my absolute favorite!!)

Make your way back to the Grand Canal and take the vaporetto to Piazza St. Marco. A lot of the times there are bands playing at the Piazza.  There are always hundres of people there -  a good place to flirt, people watch or socialize  while you enjoy the music and some coffee. It is expensive if you sit at the tables...but you can also go find a gelateria for some yummy gelato and just walk around.  There are also souvenir stalls to look at, or just enjoy watching the gorgeous architecture at night...it is amazing what you can discover. I remember looking down while standing in front of the Basilica...I discovered that water was actually bubbling and seeping between the flagstones! The city is sinking and it floods often, but nobody around me seemed to be alarmed.

Before your evening is over you can walk past the basilica to the Piazzeta di Leono on your way to Castello area of the City - there are several upscale boutiques that carry tapestries, glass, art and lether and paper goods. If you get a chance, go into a Venetian mask shop. They are absolutly enchanging!  Or, go the other way for a romantic good night kiss in front of the Ponte di Sospiri.  Enjoy  your trip!

  5. Feast and be romantic.
