What to do before Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Game?

I'm taking my Dad to the game. We are going to attend the parade ad 11:00, but the game starts at 2:10. I need to know if there is a close by restaraunt that we could walk to and grab lunch and a beer before entering the ball park. Any suggestions?

  1. I personally would go to the Hoffbrau Haus.  They have the best beer in the city, hands down (brewed onsite under the German Purity Laws).  Good German food too, its just by Newport on the Levee.  Then, when finished, just walk across the purple people bridge and down to the stadium.  Its not a real short walk, but its not real far either.

  2. There are several places you can eat at within walking distance from the park.

  3. We always go to In Between Tavern, right across from the park (corner of third and Sycamore). Beware though, it gets crowded. I would suggest going there straight from the parade. They have good food and have all kinds of festivities and mayhem going on there. It is almost like a tailgate!! In a way I guess you could say it is. Skyline is right up the street (corner of  fourth and Sycamore) and sells beer, but it also gets very crowded (you have the normal downtown lunch crowd and the gamers). Another option is O'Malley's in the Alley (Alley off of third and Vine).

Really anyplace you go is going to be crowded, the key is getting in early. Also, there are lots of restuarants up on sixth and fifth, but it is quite a little haul to get down to the stadium from there. If it were me (and we do this almost every year) I would fight the crowd and go to In Between, it is sooo much fun on Opening Day!!

  4. You can go to the Machine Room Grille which is actually at the ball park.
