What to do before I go to college?

I just graduated from high school. I got into a college but couldn't afford to go. Then I got caught up and missed the deadline to pay for community college. Now I'm going to wait a year and then go to college. I don't want to be nonproductive because I know colleges won't like that. Should I go to community second semester or apply to 4 year schools. I was also thinking about joining the air national guard because they help pay for school. Please help me I don't know what to do!!!

  1. look for scholarships!!!!

there is a lot of free money out there

taking a year off is the worst thing you can do and don't join the national guard there no really need for that!

get a loan and go to school!

you could've found money if you look for it

    go to fastweb.com

    good luck!

  2. I had to work for a while before starting at a community college!  Although it took me three years to complete two years of course work while working part-time to pay my way, I don't regret the time or starting at a community college.  I learned to study more effectively so when I transferred to the university my GPA actually increased!  I also earned a transfer scholarship that paid the tuition for the last two years!

If you've an interest in the military, by all means join!  Check the college program to be sure that you'll get the assistance in your college studies.  The only down side of the national guard is the possibility of being activated and deployed.  I had a student who had to drop all his class half way through the term at the community college due to deployment.

If you attend the community college be sure to apply for financial aid and scholarships.  Also, the community college where I taught for 30 years, has "flex entry classes" that start later than the regular semester classes.  Check with the admissions office or registrar at he community college.

  3. go to CC next semester and take some basics for sure...talk to the people there about how you go about getting money because you want to transfer to a 4 year...most are more then willing to help.  They are used to it seeing as how lots of people use them as a stepping stone for a 4 year.

  4. it is great you are worried about getting your education. first of all, you do not have to wait a year, but a semester. second, if you are having a hard time to pay for your tuition fee, go to a community college the first two years and transfer after that. it will save you a lot of money. if you go to community college and then transfer, you will realize that it is the same. there is no need to pay more to a university the 4 years. and third, if you really can't afford to pay for your tuition fee, then join the national guard. However; since i study economics, i will ask you to keep this in mind "There ain't no such a thing as a free lunch" so if you join the national guard, you won't have all the freedom you would have if you pay for your education. Good luck and get your degree no matter what.
