I just bought and installed a new cd player in my 99 mercury cougar. I still have stock speakers and I was wondering that if I bought new speakers would it increase my sound quality and bass at a pretty good level compaired to my current ones. Would this really be worth it? Any ideas or suggestions would be great

  1. are you really gonna put your stereo at full blast...thats just ghetto man...as long as it sounds good you'll be fine. you can get better ones but then you have to get them installed and thats just a *****.

  2. YES!!!! get new speakers and if you want bass get an amp and a sub or two.  It really makes a differwence, especially new tweeters

  3. It all depend on your amp.  If you want more bass and loudness, you have to upgrade your amp to more watts, then buy bigger speakers, so the factory ones dont blow.  I have two audiobahn twelves and a 2000 watt audiobahn amp, and it hits pretty hard. If you just buy bigger speakers, your radio wont have the power to push louder sound, so you wont get the full capability out of your speakers.

  4. Visit the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy.

  5. of course it would! You should try Kicker.....they have GREAT products!

  6. Okey... I love this question, cuz it's the type of thing I asked myself few years ago when I got a new pioneer player for my car as a present, so here's the deal in full....

First of all, please don't listen to the chick that said it's ghetto to put the volume all the way up!! if you have a good listening ear, you know it's about clarity and depth, NOT loudness... at least that's what I was aiming for.

So what did I do you say??? I went out and spent weeks researching good speakers based on prices & quality, and settled on POLKS in the 3-way in the front and 4-way in the back. (If you're cereous what 3-way and 4-way mean, it's basically a fancy way of saying what frequencies the speakers are able to reproduce. A speaker with a super tweeter, a tweeter (high pitch), and cone (mid and low pitch) would be a 4-way speaker cuz it can "technically" play all 4 frequencies (extra high, high, mid, low)) ANYWAYSS... making my story a bit shorter... they were PRETTY NICE speakers, that cost ~$100 a set, and took many hours to install (the rear speakers are always a hassle). The end result you ask??? Indeed a Much clearer sound, though the base was GONE (to comment on you saying that you think your base currently is decent).

So to fix it all, I went and bought an amp and a sub, and finally everything started to sound Sweet!! but that set me another ~$200 behind. I did some more research later, and found out that ALL the speakers out there that can reproduce a quality sound (which is what you're probably looking for) need an accompanying amp to really get that base out of them, and them maybe you won't need a sub.

Another important point to mention... If I took my fancy system and ran sound lousy music through it from a CD I burned from downloaded songs, Radio, or even my MP3 player (I had a connection for that), that sound wasn't anything but normal (minus the bass, cuz u can always hear that sucker pumping, lol)

Bottom line... just because u just got a nice head unit, it doesn't mean you're anywhere CLOSE to getting a Nice sound out of your car!! So if this is your getting through college or HS car, please save yourself the hassle and money... please don't get me wrong... I loved the system while I had it, but looking back at it, I might have not done it at all.

The only thing I’m adding to my new car now is a base, cuz I kinda miss how my car shacked before ;)

    Good luck!

  7. yeah why not there are some great speakers out there that sound awsome with bass and highs go for it you should tell the difference.....i did and now it sounds great but i also put 3 12inch subs in a enclosed box to add the xtra bump and sounds way better thats something you should look into.....get your self an amp wires and subs you'll be set to go to get the best out of your speakers hook up a 200watt or less amp to them they will sound even better but it will cost more....
