just last night i had a minor fender bender in new york,i hit a van in front of me who made a sudden stop to avoid a reckless cab driver that swerved infront of him.all the three of us stopped and blamed the cab driver for the mess.since this was my first time to encounter such an incident, what is right for me to agree that we just have to repair our own damages?(as suggested by the other party) or should i have exchange insurance info and called the police?

  1. Exchange drivers license information at the very least.  Call the police is a good idea, in case the other driver has phony info.

  2. You should ALWAYS get the other drivers information that are involved.  You never know who your dealing with, especially if the person in front of you now turns and files a claim on your insurance.  If so, you have no information on the cab driver..

  3. Always call the police, always notify your insurance company...NEVER try to settle on your own
