  1. Have you tried Tempra? I found it worked better then Tylenol. You've listed everything I would have suggested. sometimes distraction helps..a walk in the stroller, a warm soothing bath or simply singing to him might distract him from the pain. Just keep doing what you can and know that this too shall pass! :)

  2. try ashton and parsons powder- it is amazing!!!!!

  3. Hello,I totally understand your situation visit my blog and check out home remedies for your teething baby @http://lifeasafirsttimeparent.blogspot.c...

  4. I've found that there are two different ways to tackle crabby teething babies.  You can try to remedy the pain and you can try to distract from the pain.  Usually while they are awake you can just distract from the pain and do okay. Some fun new "toys" like your watch, a scratched CD, discovery bottles, a bottle of lotion, pots and pans, and exciting things like that can help in keeping him distracted and interested while he's awake.  When it's time to sleep you can't distract from the pain as much, since he won't be doing anything except trying to sleep.  You can try adding some white noise or some music, which may help focus his attention away from the discomfort.

To actually deal with the discomfort, a drop or two of brandy rubbed on his gums where he is teething will numb his gums pretty well.  Orajel has a 15 minute -2 hour or so range of numbing, but usually it's much closer to 15 minutes.  Brandy is supposed to work for a couple of hours.  If you really aren't comfortable putting alcohol on his gums, pure vanilla extract can be used the same way.  Make sure that it is pure extract and not imitation vanilla.   If he is eating solids well and you aren't concerned about spices, you can mix some cinnamon and nutmeg and rub a little bit of it on his gums as well.   What ever pain relief you choose, including medication, try to use it as sparingly as possible, which makes it seem to be more effective when you do use it.  If you can use distraction to deal with his discomfort while he is awake, that will let you use tylenol or motrin for sleep times.

Also remember that teething isn't ever supposed to be *painful* for a baby.  It is supposed to be uncomfortable, annoying, obnoxious, and distracting, but it shouldn't ever be causing true pain.  If you think that he is in real pain, consider having a professional look at him.

  5. Motrin worked for Emma, but she still was cranky.  I can't tell you anything magical that helps....but I can say Emma got her two bottom teeth at nine months followed by the top two, the left bottom, and the left top all in one month.  It gets better....I noticed she was not nearly as fussy with these last two.

  6. You can try teething tablets called Humphrey's. I think they work the best... You may have to call around to find them though. I had to call a Sav-On pharmacy as they were not in the aisles. My son didn't care for teething rings or those fruit mesh bags. I found that he liked Gerber Biter Biscuits. They have ridges so when the baby bites them or rubs them against their gums I think it helps. Good luck!
