Question:

What to do for an "about me" collage?

for our first back to school assignment, we have to make an "about me" collage (the usual, 10 things that represent us) my teacher just showed us a (bad) example of a plain poster board with pictures. she wouldn't show us more examples because she wants us to be creative.

I've thought about making a mobile or a shadow box.. any more ideas of what I could do? Thanks :)

  1. you can make a scrapbook (a mini one would probably be fine!)

with a page per thing! it would be awesome.. although i really really like your shadow box idea... with things you like.. if you like winter, make a winter scene with snowflakes with pics on them of your interests, or summer- you can do a summer scene, spring- flowers... and autumn, leaves.

you can get really creative with shadow boxes (dioramas)

  2. I have done a couple of things with photos that I think are interesting.  Print your photos on transparencies then flip them over and put them on top of the photgraph.  It changes the photos completely - very abstract and interesting.

The idea of photo transfers may be fun.  You can transfer your photos onto wood, metal, paper, anything smooth.  You may be able to transfer them onto the shadow box.  This could also work for your mobile...print onto pieces of metal.  I buy metal at home depot for less than a dollar called flashing.  (I would practice it first - It can be tricky.   Directions in link below.

You could take a plain tote bag, paint it interestingly, and fill it with things that are about you.

You could make a quilt.  I make them from paper.  Print your photos onto paper and then hand stitch them together.  You could include scraps of things you like...maybe a candy bar wrapper or something.

You could make a video.  Give a tour of your home/room/town.

    Good luck!

  3. How about you have copies of ten photos that you like that have you in them. Then, cut out yourself from the photo, leaving whatever else you were photographed with.

Then you can get extra points for saying "It is the experiences and people that I meet along the way that make up Me" It's all philosophical and stuff. Teachers love that rubbish. Shows you've "thought" about it :p

Most of the other people will probably just paste photos of themselves on a board or whatever. So then take the photos with you out of them and put them on something unusual.
