I want to have a childish birthday party to celebrate my 18th. i wanted to hire out a jumping castle and get my friends to dress up etc. but there isn't much room in my backyard for a jumping castle and they cost a bit to hire out to. i was thinking on hiring out a hall or something but i dont have much money and i would rather have it at home so people are able to crash for the night. does anyone have any ideas?

  1. That could be a different idea, but keep in mind if your friends are the type that will enjoy this sort of a party or not. It's a good idea to have your 18th at home (I did), that way you can save costs on hiring a hall out and perhaps put that money towards something expensive like a jumping castle. And if you drink you can have friends crash which is even easier (and make them help with cleaning up the next morning!). I suggest hire a slurpee/slushie machine - a friend of mine hired one for her 21st and it was fantastic.

  2. Try this theme: What I wanted to be when I was a kid. You should get some amusing costumes (watch out for twenty ballerinas and fifty football stars!).

You could play some fun kiddie games, such as pass-the-parcel, pin the tail on the donkey and musical chairs/statues.

You could also watch some films from childhood that you and your guests loved (perhaps at other parties you had with them when you were younger?) - such as Bambi or a Muppets film.

Kiddie food such as animal biscuits, milkshakes and sweets could be served. This would also help avoid drunken incidents like being too loud or being sick everywhere :) Try an alcohol-free policy or a policy where you can have some alcohol but if people get too drunk they are sent home.

Also give out goodie-bags to guests after, filled with sweets and toys like you used to have as a kid :)

  3. Unless your friends are on board with the jumping castle idea, it'll be a waste of your money. Ask them. If they like the idea let them go in on the cost with you. If you don't have room, ask a friend with more room to have the party there and permission to spend the night. Speaking of spending the night, why not have a slumber party (childish) or sleep outdoors ... and use the budget for food, movies, games or whatever you decide you want to do. Make it a potluck to reduce your costs. You don't want to spend all your time planning the party and blow you budget on hosting the party so you can't even enjoy yourself. Keep it simple!!! And, by the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

  4. Have an Alice in Wonderland tea party. You can start off with tea and cookies then go into a sit down dinner. Have a colorful whimsical cake and as a game you can all ask each other riddles like the caterpillar. Everyone can dress as a character or just in pretty clothes.

  5. Our Church just rented the park (it is very inexpensive to rent a park - check with your local park board).  We had a rented Jumping Castle set up as well as volley ball.

It was a good time...  is there a park close to your home?

Take your party from the afternoon into the evening - playing in the park then more fun & food & drink at your home. (?)

  6. Have like pin the tail on the donkey, streamers, a kiddy cake like pooh bear or barbie, party hats . . . Just go to a supermarket and buy the party supplies there they always have kiddy things there!

  7. Well if you hire a hall Im pretty sure people will be able to crash in that..and anyway you will find that most people are cool with sleeping in their cars! Especially if their wasted...

I was going to do a jumping castle for my 18th too but I researched prices and found out it would cost far too much..and plus people might throw up on it and then its useless for the rest of the night!!
