Question:

What to do if I can't visit colleges?

I'm a junior, and I've been hearing is about time to start going to the colleges for visits. The problem is: every college I've looked at is at LEAST 10 hours away, and no two are in the same state..

lol.

The ones that I could visit, are ones I can visit because they're where I am visiting family or where I live (and honestly, all three aren't my top choices).

We don't have the money to travel the entire country, so what should I do instead?

  1. Research! Find a way to connect to current students and former students at the school to get the low-down on what the campus is like and just about the college in general.

And don't worry! You still have time to look at schools since you're only a junior. Maybe plan to go visit one or two this year and do the same you're senior year.

  2. i have the same problem as you.  you can find out a lot online so just make the most of whatever resources you have.  maybe you could think about visits when you get acceptance letters (that way you visit colleges you know you got into, instead of wasting time by visiting ahead of time and then not even getting in).  just make sure they have the major you want.  there are probably other factors too...but like i said, you can find out a lot online.  i would say to go on at least one college tour just to see what a tour is like (all you need is one tour because all colleges are basically the same...a place to get an education). it couldnt hurt to walk around at some local colleges, even if you have no interest, just to get a feel for what its like to be at college.  the big question is what type of location are you looking for.  its not the end of the world if you go to a college you never visited, as long as you know thats what you want
