If a ground ball is hit to 2nd base should the 2nd baseman get it and tag the bag or should he give to the shortstop so he could tag it?

  1. If you're close enough you should tag 2nd yourself. What's the point of tossing the ball 1 foot for the SS to tag it?

  2. well if he is close enough he should should tag but if he isn't he should do a shovel pass

  3. Well you're missing a lotta details.

    How many outs are there?

Is there a runner at first?

When you say a groundball is hit to 2nd base, you mean the 2nd base bag or the 2nd baseman?

Well if theres no outs and no runners on, traditionally the SS should get the ball and throw to first base, because his angled towards first base is better.  The 2nd baseman would have to give a cross body throw.

  4. it matters how close you are to second and if you can beat the runner there if you can't beat the runner throw it if you can step on second

  5. If you are further than a few feet from the base toss it to the SS... The momentum from his position will help the ball get to 1st base faster so more double plays will be completed successfully

  6. I am puzzled, why this question? Tag it yourself and you can probably stay out of the way of the runner coming from first who wants to break up the double play, the shortstop actually usually gets closer to the runner. Further the the shortstop will carry right into the runner making it easier to take him out of the play.
