What to do if fighting fish wont eat and isnt swimming?

Have had my fighting fish for 7 months now and it was fine except for the 2 weeks... It is no longer swimming and it wont eat its food... Im only feeding it 2 pellets a day... Could he be ill? if so whats the remedy... i'm thinkng of changing his food too fish flakes but what abou the not swimming part? why wont he swim? the bowl is big enough for him and i have a plant in there.. so not sure whats happening... could he be dieing?

  1. i hope you have an aquarium heater

    they do this when they are cold

First off, check the temperature.  It should be 76-80 degrees.  If it is any lower than that, that could account for it.  Secondly, buy a test kit and check the water levels for nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia to make sure they are in good limits.  You are using a water treatment, correct?  If all of these come out okay, you might go to this site:  http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_diseases.... and look up signs of the common diseases to see if any match up.  Good luck!

  3. You've allowed him to become soft. This fish was born for combat. Get another fighting fish and make him fight for his life, that'll give him some spunk. Or he'll die, and you'll have a new, tougher fish.
